Introducing Dragon Glass

We are a husband and wife team, running a stained glass company from home. We started trading as ‘Dragon Glass’ in July of 1997, from our home in Ward End, Birmingham.

Elizabeth Room has a BA HONS degree in 3D Design in Glass. She studied at Stourbridge College and Wolverhampton Polytechnic and her main lecturers were the then Head of the glass course, Professor Keith Cummings, expert in kiln formed glass, who has written many historical and technical books on his art; and the present Head of Wolverhampton glass course, Stewart Garfoot, expert in hot glass processing and commercial glass design.

Elizabeth is grateful for the chance she had to experiment truly with hot molten glass, which opened her eyes to the infinite creative possibilities of this medium.

Christopher Room served an apprenticeship as an artistic sign writer under the tutorage of Don Brown a master craftsman and expert in many types of tradtional painting techniques including gold leaf and acid etching. Christopher became technically and commercially proficent.

Chris and Liz met whilst both working at a stained glass company called ‘A Touch of Glass’ whilst honing their different skills and at the same time learning more about commercial glass processing, both modern and traditional the future partnership that is Dragon Glass was formed.

Consequently to maintain income streams we diversified into custom design glass for the retail market. This allowed us to experiment with techniques and designs and consequently we feel that we are much better technicians with a greater knowledge of
glass manufacturing techniques.

This has given us a greater understanding and appreciation of the techniques employed by the old glass masters.

We are comfortable restoring old stained glass panels using traditional techniques or designing and making reproduction windows again using traditional techniques to blend with existing windows. We would be pleased to advise on how to maintain your glass in good condition and recommend a maintenance programme.

Dragon Glass is a small family company and though we have had several opportunities to grow the business, as artisans, we prefer to remain small and keep a hands on involvement with all our work. However, due to our extensive connections within the stained glass community we are able, if necessary, to bring in other known artisans and friends whose work meet our exacting standards to assist on larger projects. Remaining small we are able to maintain the highest quality standards for our work. Working with glass is a lifetime passion.

We have selected from our large body of works some of the comissions which we deem relate to the field of traditional glass restoration.
