merry heart

Thornbridge Hall

Grade II listed building in Ashford in the Water, Derbyshire

The hall is a privately owned estate, which is carefully being returned back to its former glory. This is one of our on going projects. We have been working on site for many years.

Initially, we were commissioned to restore eight picture panels, including the four hand painted panels (above) which link together to read ‘A Merry Heart Goes All The Day.’ They were removed from the old kitchen because of their poor state of repair and stored in boxes. Fortunately, the owners had access to extensive photographic archives and we were able to piece them back together - replacing missing pieces as necessary.

We have produced panels from square leaded lights to rebuilding some of the panels that had extensive damage, cleaned some of the windows in the main hall which were blackened from a fire in the laundry area.

Another project was changing the coach house in to a function room & bar, offices and a living space.

The main hall dome was cleaned and repaired in stitu, due to the height and the fragility of the glass panels. Missing pieces that had fallen out over the years were replaced using hand blown glass and re coloured to match.
